Allegations of unlawful discrimination in education: parents taking their fight for Auslan to the courts

This article seeks to review a number of cases in which Australian parents have claimed indirect discrimination by educational authorities over their children's lack of access to instruction through Australian Sign Language (Auslan) and discusses the outcomes of such litigation.

An independent outcome study of aTreatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped Children (TEACCH) intervention for children with autism

This paper aims to report on the TEACHH pilot for children with Autism; in particular, its effectiveness and fidelity as well as general attitudes to autism among staff.

Attitudes of preservice teachers towards teaching deaf and ESL students

This study explored preservice teachers' attitudes towards teaching students who were deaf, compared to students who spoke polish. Teachers had higher expectations of the students with deafness and were more confident about teaching them.

Australian children with special health care needs: social-emotional and learning competencies in the early years

This study examined the relationship between special health care needs and social-emotional and learning competence in the early years. Boys were more likely than girls to have special health care needs. Special health care needs predicted learning and academic competencies in the early years.
